How to Pass PHYS 110 and 111 at UVic | Heywood Academies

Hey Reader,

PHYS 110 and 111 are among the most failed courses at UVic.

A lot of first-year students go in thinking it will be similar to high school physics.

It isn't.

The course moves fast, the content gets locked week by week, and the tests are entirely multiple-choice.

That last part trips up a lot of people because multiple-choice physics requires a different kind of preparation than most students expect.

The resources provided in these courses are actually not bad.

There are lots of resources provided but they are a little hard to follow.

You get assignments, teaching assignments, class examples, and practice tests before every test.

The students who do well are usually the ones who treat those practice tests like the real thing, under timed conditions.

Every test allows a formula sheet.

The best way to build one is gradually throughout the course. Every time you solve a problem, pull the formula you used and add it to your sheet.

By the time the test comes around, your formula sheet is already done and you've seen every formula on it in context.

One more thing worth knowing: questions from the assignments and teaching assignments sometimes show up on tests, so don't just check your answers and move on.

We've tutored a lot of UVic students through PHYS 110 and 111. It's our most tutored course at UVic.
